Our September Special Offering supports the Gibson Area Music Foundation.
We encourage all singers to participate in the Gibson Area Music Foundation’s
annual performance of Handel’s Messiah. We will rehearse Monday evenings
at 7:00 at the First Presbyterian Church in Gibson City, beginning October 28th,
with a dress rehearsal held Saturday morning, December 7th. The performance will
be the afternoon of Sunday, December 8th, at the Gibson City Bible Church.
We have quite accomplished vocalists singing the solo parts, but to sing in the
chorus, a love of music is all that’s required. Dr. Janet McCumber will direct this
year’s performance. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Choral and Orchestral
Conducting from Eastern Illinois University and a Bachelor of Science degree
in Music Education from the University of Illinois. She has most recently earned
her Doctorate in Choral Conducting and Literature from the U of I. Dr. McCumber
has directed the University Mixed Chorus and taught music appreciation at EIU.
She has also served as a Senior Chorus Co-Chair for District V of the Illinois
Music Educators’ Association (IMEA). Dr. McCumber has presented clinics on
choral music at the IMEA All-State Conference, and has directed choral festivals
throughout the state of Illinois, including the 2012 IMEA District V Senior Chorus.
We believe anyone who participates will benefit greatly from Dr. McCumber’s
instruction.
We look forward to welcoming you into our choir at the first rehearsal,
October 28th!
